Anthony Davis Remains #2 in CBS POY Rankings

Goodman and Parrish (or Carey and Daniels as I like to refer to them) update the POY watch for CBS. Here’s the scoop.

As we came down the stretch of the regular season, the Player of the Year race is as tight of a two-man battle as we’ve seen in recent memory. Kansas junior Thomas Robinson has been fantastic all year long — and the same can be said for fabulous frosh Anthony Davis of Kentucky. This one will come right down to the wire.

Here’s what they said about Anthony Davis.

He was phenomenal in a close win against Vandy at Rupp, scoring 28 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and swatting five shots. Davis now has 138 blocks this year and leads Kentucky in scoring, rebounding, steals and blocks. [B]Last week:No. 2

It is going to be tough to see Davis edging this out if things continue as they have. The award(s) always go to the offensive producer over the game winner or the defensive guy. Look at last year with Kemba and Jimmer. There is a reason they have a defensive POY award.

Davis deserves to win POY, but he will need some separation in the tourney to do so. A National Title would work nicely. One thing I keep thinking about regarding Robinson and Kansas is that they didn’t start winning until Tyshawn Taylor stepped up, not Thomas Robinson.
