Alvin Gentry Says “Kentucky Is Kansas On Steroids”

As if John Calipari has any trouble selling his Kentucky basketball program himself, he now has New Orleans Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry doing it for him also.

Gentry spent the early part of his coaching career as an assistant at Baylor and Colorado before spending 3 years under Larry Brown at Kansas from 1986-1989, helping the Jayhawks win the 1988 National Championship.

Gentry has this to say post-game when the Pelicans played the Sacramento Kings in Rupp Arena Saturday night.

“I was at Kansas. Great program. This place is Kansas on steroids.”

Gentry, who was an assistant for the Golden State Warriors last season helping them win the NBA Championship, is in his first year as head coach of the Pelicans and also had some advice for the number of elite prospects Kentucky had on campus for Big Blue Madness over the weekend.

“If I’m a high school player, and they’re recruiting me, there’s no decision on where I’m going.”
