It looks like college isn’t just fun and games, especially when you get over 500,000 views on a video that people think is offensive.
Here is an excerpt telling the story.
A University of Alabama sorority has deleted a popular recruitment video and all of its social media pages in the wake of a controversy over the video, which has been criticized for lacking diversity and objectifying women.
Alpha Phi deleted the video, which had 500,000 views on YouTube before it was removed, but it has since been uploaded by other YouTube users. The chapter also has taken down its Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr pages.
The controversy began after writer A.L. Bailey published an opinion piece, which called Alpha Phi’s video “so racially and aesthetically homogeneous and forced, so hyper-feminine, so reductive and objectifying … It’s all so unempowering.”
Not everyone is outraged by the video, however, and some have defended the sorority.
Katherine Timpf said on “Fox and Friends” that she doesn’t understand why this is national news in the first place.
“If you don’t like it, you don’t have to join that sorority,” Timpf said. “If those women want to present themselves that way, that’s their choice.”
I just can’t believe the NCAA didn’t make them take it down because recruits will be swayed to play there because of all the scenery.
