Wildcats vs. Gators in 2010-2011

It is officially Gator Hater week at Nation of Blue. I don’t really know what that means, but the Wildcats will face Florida in Gainesville this weekend so I suspect a lot of NOB’s coverage will be on that game and the fact that we dislike Florida. I thought we’d take a few minutes to look at the Wildcats schedule vs. Florida this year in the various sports where they compete.

[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

Baseball:
The Wildcats faced Florida in a triple header in April. On the 15th, 16th and 17th, the 30th ranked Cats took on the hated Gators in Lexington and went 2-1. The first two games were lost but the Cats redeemed themselves with a 3rd game victory.

Basketball:
John Calipari will face Florida twice this year, once in Gainesville (which is also ESPN Gameday) on 2-5-2011 and then in Lexington on 2-26-2011. I’d like to think that the Wildcats will pull out two victories but the reality is the young team will have to have a great game to beat Florida on their home court. Worst case will be 1-1 in the series this year.

UK Hoops:
The ladies will only face Florida once this year in Gainesville. Simply put, I look for a Wildcat victory as the UK Hoops team continues to gain momentum in the NCAA. GO BIG BLUE!

Football:
Next weekend is a big weekend for the Wildcats on the field. Can they start 4-0? Can they beat Florida at home? In order to do so, the defense will need to play 60 solid minutes and Mike Hartline will have to continue his smart play. The key to this game will be no turnovers and flawless Special Forces.

Gymnastics:
I don’t even know what a Gymnastics competition looks like, but I hope the Wildcats can go home with new gator boots! 1-14-2011 is the date and I am sure there will be flipping and cartwheels and music. And if the Wildcats win, I’ll do a cartwheel and post a picture of it.

Women’s Soccer:
The football team aren’t the only ones to face Florida during Gator Hater week. The women’s soccer team take the field on Friday 9-24-2010 in Lexington and the Wildcats are on a roll this year. Sitting at 6-2 on the season, the Wildcats have only allowed 5 goals while scoring 12 of their own. I think Kentucky get’s the next match and Florida goes home with a 3-1 loss.

Women’s Softball:
Like the baseball team, the softball team played 3 games against the Gators and ended up with only 1 win. The Gators were ranked 3rd and the Wildcats unranked so the one win was actually a big one, especially since they were in Florida. During the last of the 3 games, the Gators shutout the Wildcats 5-0.

Women’s Tennis:
It’s no April’s fools, the Wildcats will face Florida on 4-1-2011 in Lexington for a head to head match. I don’t know squat about Tennis, but I know I hate Gators.

Volleyball:
Last but not least is volleyball. The Cats have already went against Florida once this year and after winning the first set, dropped the next 3 to fall 3-1. The Cats WILL get revenge and this time in Gainesville on 10-24-2010. Look for a five-set match and the Cats taking is 3-2.

It’s Gator Hater Week at NOB, expect for Kentucky vs. Florida news all week.
