Wildcat Football: This is Not the End

I’ve heard a lot of condemnation about “fire Joker” and “the season was a disaster”. When I did my “the good, the bad and the ugly” article about the BBVA Compass Bowl, one commenter said there wasn’t anything good about it. Let’s step back for a moment and take a deep breath. *sigh*

Now, let’s remember a few things:

1) This is Joker’s first year as a head coach. You’ve got to give him a little time to get his system in place
2) UK did beat Louisville AT Louisville
3) UK did beat South Carolina (first time in 17 years)
4) UK only lost to Auburn by 3 points (you know, the National Champions?)
5) UK was playing Pitt with a backup QB. As much talent as Morgan Newton has, he hasn’t taken a lot of snaps with the first team.

Granted, Kentucky’s defense is still struggling, but let’s give Coach Minter a chance to do something over the summer (he’s brand new too). The fact that Minter was brought on shows that Joker is aware of the problem.

I think Joker needs to decide on a starting QB sooner rather than later, and the defense has to get aggressive (and I mean AGGRESSIVE), but things could be worse. As long as they don’t lose too many more recruits, UK will be fine next year. Really. Trust me.
