Yesterday, five-star recruit as listed by Scout and Rival Chane Behanan made the announcement that he would play college basketball for Rick Pitino at the University of Louisville. The Bowling Green star was being recruited by many schools and on a recent visit towards Louisville, Behanan received a call from Coach Cal who offered him a scholarship to play at Kentucky.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
For most, it seemed like Chane playing for UK was a near lock. He had stated in the past that he was hoping UK would offer and mentioned during a Nation of Blue interview that he was very excited when he received the call from Calipari. “Kind of funny,” he said. “The only time they seemed to offer (a scholarship) was because I was going to Louisville.”
The fact of the matter is, the 2011 Wildcats recruiting class is already star studded. Chane knows this. Although I am surprised that Behanan stated one of the factors to go to Louisville was an “easier slate” for minutes, it is a true statement. I wouldn’t have expected Chane to back down from that challenge. Recent Wildcats such as Eric Bledsoe saw his similar situation as an opportunity to get better and that helped to land him a first round pick in the NBA draft.
Yet, with commitments from Kyle Wiltjer and Anthony Davis, Chane is right. “That played in it a lot,” he said. “Knowing the guys they got. They play my position.”
