For most players the recruiting process is pretty straight forward. One of the best players in this year’s class, Andre Drummond, has quite the extraordinary circumstance effecting his recruitment.
The 2012 big man has already graduated high school, making him eligible for this upcoming season, although he remains adamant that he won’t sign as a member of the class of 2011. What this means is that he can take a year at a post graduate program to work on his game and then make a decision, or go to the NBA after next season.
“Wait go to the NBA? Brian you’re crazy!” No I’m not. Under the current bargaining agreement (assuming it stays similar) A player must be one year removed from high school. Meaning at the end of the next season he is free to go to the league if he wants, and he certainly has the body for it.
Because of this, many coaches have strayed away from him; UConn and West Virginia have had an assistant on him every game this week, and Coach Cal and an assistant have been at a majority of his games as well.
So what happens if he doesn’t go to the league? Will Kentucky have the edge because they are spending the most time one him? One would think so, but when it comes to Andre Drummond, nothing is ordinary..
