Who is Daniel Dingle?

When a new recruit is mentioned in the same sentence with UK, we always want to find out more about that recruit. Sometimes it’s a guy we’ve all heard of but not associated with Kentucky – like DeAndre Daniels. Other times, the name is completely new to us – like Daniel Dingle.

Daniel Dingle is a 6’ 7, 220 lb. power forward from the class of 2012, and hails from the Bronx (St. Raymond HS). You may remember St. Raymond’s as the home of other potential UK recruits Sidiki Johnson (2011) and Nkereuwem ‘Kerwin’ Okoro (2012). I first heard about Dingle in a report by Oregon Live yesterday talking about the Les Schwab Invitational. Kentucky commit Kyle Wiltjer will be playing in it as well, and the article stated that Dingle was on Kentucky’s radar. According to Scout, Dingle has already visited UK, and holds offers from Arizona, Fordham, Iowa State, Rutgers, St. John’s and West Virginia.

Some quotes and notes about Dingle:

”Daniel’s the most complete, versatile player in NYC, He could play all five positions comfortably; he could put the ball on the floor at the point, face up to the basket, and his basketball IQ is strong.”
– Jerry Powell, Skills Trainer

His older brother, Dana, starred for [St. Raymond] and went on to team with Marcus Camby on the UMass squad that made it to the 1996 NCAA Final Four.

His coach is Oliver Antigua, younger brother of UK assistant Orlando Antigua.

He averaged 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists per game last year

“I probably won’t decide anything until my senior year. I need my body and my game to progress and I want to see if I grow some more in the next couple of years. I’ll mostly be looking at what schools have to offer academically and what coaches can help me get to the next level.”

“Dingle’s versatility on the floor is continuing to give opponents trouble on the defensive end. With the ability to knock down the contested three or drive to the hoop with either hand, Dingle has showcased his wide-varied offensive skill-set time after time. An always active force under the basket, Dingle creates extra opportunities for his team with each offensive rebound.”
