Who Wins NBA Rookie of the Year?

Hoopsworld.com wonders who will win this season’s NBA Rookie of the Year Award.

Former UK stars John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins are in the preseason mix along with Blake Griffin, Evan Turner, Wesley Johnson and Derrick Favors.

Here is what Hoopsworld says must happen for Wall or Cousins to win:

John Wall Wins Rookie Of The Year If… No one notices he’s a terrible shooter… In three games Wall is a combined 16-of-42 from the field for a dreadful 38.1% field goal percentage. He is is also 0-for-5 from three-point range. The fact that Wall is averaging 14.7 points and 8 assists per game is a solid number considering he’s seeing roughly 35 minutes per game and can’t shoot. Wall is breath taking in the open floor and as he finds his range and his spots on the floor in the NBA his production should come up, but Wall might be the runner-up for Rookie of the Year simply because he may not put up the numbers voters like to see for the award.
DeMarcus Cousins Wins Rookie Of The Year If… He can stay on the floor for more than 20 minutes a game. DeMarcus has fouled out of two of his three preseason games after 21 minutes and 25 minutes respectively. The Kings say they are letting him play through to get a feel for the game, but even with a workload of 25.3 minutes per game, DeMarcus is proving to be a monster averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds. Cousins is awfully close to rookie class leader Blake Griffin in scoring and is the top rebounder in the class. If DeMarcus can figure out how to dominate without fouling, he could be the next best rookie behind Griffin, and really could be his biggest challenger.
