When I am king, things are going to change in the sports world.
The first thing that’s going to change is the post-season for basketball. All of this discussion about “who’s on the bubble?” and “who’s in, who’s out?” is not entirely scientific or what I would consider “fair and unbiased”. When I am King, the conference tournaments will be the first round of the National tournament.
There are 32 conferences (counting Independents). If you take the top 4 finishers in each conference tournament, that means 128 teams advance to the Regional tournaments. You have 8 Regional tournaments around the country with 16 teams each. The top 4 teams from each Regional advance to the Nationals, which would give you 64 teams (a perfect bracket). Instead of everybody waiting on pins and needles to see if some committee will vote them worthy of playing in the national tournament or not, the final 64 teams in the National tournament would actually be (perish the thought) the top 64 teams in the nation.
And 68 teams? Seriously? What an ugly and cumbersome bracket. #EPICFAIL
Of course, no conference will be able to send more than 4 teams on. But really, if some of the “Big 6” conference teams are upset because they would be going to the tournament if they were in any other conference, then maybe they should move to another conference.
When I am king, things are definitely going to change…
