What Does Calipari Think of the NBA in Kentucky?

There’s nothing to it other than the city of Louisville retaining an attorney to explore the idea. There’s been a little bit of chatter amongst college basketball fans in the state. Now, Coach Calipari is talking about an NBA team in Kentucky. More specifically, in Louisville and he doesn’t think it would be a bad idea.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

The Kentucky Kings or perhaps the Louisville Hornets? It seems that both of those programs could be looking for a new place to call home in the future and with a new stadium on the waterfront, Louisville may be that place. Who knows. There are however a difference of opinions an NBA team would have on college basketball in the state. Coach Cal is thinking that glass is half full.

“I don’t think there’s any downside… This state is driven by the city of Louisville,” Calipari said. “Anything that’s good for the city of Louisville is good for our state. I believe [the NBA] is good for the city of Louisville, which makes our state even better.”

Calipari has this to say to people who think it will take away from UK.

“It will never take away from the University of Kentucky, never, ever,” he said. “It will never take dollars away, it will never take seats away.”

“The recruiting for Louisville will go up because there will be pro scouts in there every day,” Calipari said. “That’s what happened to us in Memphis, every day, because they’re going in to see the pro team that night. Where do they go that afternoon? They go to the gym to see the college players.”
