UK has no commitments from the class of 2012 at this point, but a lot of interest is being bandied about. As far as I can tell, the only guards with offers from Kentucky are Archie Goodwin (5-star out of Arkansas), L.J. Rose (5-star out of Texas) and Kyle Anderson (5-star out of New Jersey).
While I count at least 15 guards from that class with some kind of interest in Kentucky, there are a few whose recruitment could be increasing in the next few weeks. Four-star shooting guard Omar Calhoun out of New York (photo above left) said that Kentucky has contacted him and is increasing their interest. Calhoun has about 15 offers right now from D-1 schools including UConn, Florida, Pitt, Louisville and a host of major conference schools. Those showing interest but not offering yet include Georgetown, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina. Calhoun is averaging 29 points per game in the EYBL.
Another scoring guard in the 2012 class is 5-star D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera out of Indianapolis (photo above center). You may remember the name as he beat out Marquis Teague for Player of the Year accolades recently. Smith-Rivera said that Kentucky has backed off of his recruitment lately but he hoped that they would pick it up a bit. The last I heard, it was Smith-Rivera who was listing his interest in Kentucky as “low”, so I’m not sure what has happened to change his mind.
Finally, 5-star Gary Harris out of Fishers, Indiana has recently started hearing from Kentucky (photo above right). Harris is a top-25 recruit who also has several offers from major conference schools, including Illinois, Louisville, Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue. Kentucky is interested, but has not yet offered.
