The Kentucky Wildcats women’s soccer team improves to a 2-0 start for the season with a win over neighbor Indiana yesterday. The Hoosiers traveled to Lexington for this match and couldn’t pull out a net as the Cat’s send them packing with a 2-0 victory. Natalie Horner scored her first goal as a Wildcat just 3 minutes into the match. Coach Lipsitz was pleased with the early score.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
“It was a fantastic early goal; it might turn out to be the goal of the year” the head coach said.
“Our early goal changed the game,” said Lipsitz. “Even though we played very poorly in the first half against the run of play, we were ahead 1-0 at halftime. It really helps a coach to go in at halftime and say, `We just played very poorly, and I doubt we’re going to play any worse. Indiana was clearly the better team in the first half, but against the run of play, here’s a positive, so let’s take it. Here are the things we need to do to get better.’ And I really challenged them at halftime and said, `We’ve worked on things for three weeks together and if we can do those things we can play better in the second half and I know you can do it, but it’s up to you, not us (coaches).’ I thought we came out and played extremely well in the second half.”
