UK2K – Kentucky Wins 2,000

It seems like an eternity ago, but it was exactly 365 days ago to the day, that the University of Kentucky Basketball program did something no other team had done, securing win number 2,000, over a hapless Drexel, 88-44.

DeMarcus Cousins grabbed his fifth double-double of the season on 18 points and 13 rebounds in just 14 minutes of action. Patrick Patterson also scored 18 and John Wall was the third team member in double-digits with 16 points.

But the win was more then just a box score, it was 106 years of tradition. A tradition started by the late Adolph Rupp and carried on by men like Joe B Hall, Rick Pitino and the latest, John Calipari.

A record that included so many players and teams, so many seasons, 7 National Titles, 13 Final Four Appearances, 25 SEC Tournament Championships and 43 SEC Championships, 5 National Players of the Year and 50 All-Americans and one Olympic Gold Medal.

Teams with nicknames like “The Fab Five”, “The Fiddlin Five”, “The Unforgettables”, “Rupp’s Runts” and “The Untouchables”.

Al McGuire said it best about Kentucky Basketball Tradition – “They had it before you, they had it during you, they’ll have it when you’re gone”….

First to 2,000, a record secured, forever, in the history of College Basketball.
