UK vs. AL: The Battle For Trevor Lacey

Much has been said about Kentucky’s 2011 recruiting class. A class that’s already projected to be the #1 recruiting class in the country, has a great opportunity to become even better. Trevor Lacey has been tearing up the court this year. The Holiday tournament season has just started and Lacey kicked it off by scoring 51 points.

It seems like Kentucky always has the upper hand these days, but that might not be the case with Lacey. Second year Alabama head coach, Anthony Grant, has Alabaman moving in the right direction and is definitely not giving in to Kentucky recruiting dominance.

Even more importantly, Lacey seems to have a great relationship with Grant. This could be the deciding factor when Lacey makes his decision this spring.

Here’s an excerpt of some recent Lacey comments about Grant…
After the game, Lacey talked a little about how his recruiting is going. Nothing has really changed. He’s still looking at Alabama, Auburn, Kansas, Kentucky and UCONN.

He’s trying to schedule his visits but hasn’t been able to find time yet. He also said he wants to take all of his visits before making a decision and said that he will have a decision no later than April but that it could be before then.

I thought what he said about Alabama head coach Anthony Grant was interesting.
“He’s very eager to want to win,” Lacey said. “He’s rebuilding the program, and I think he’s doing a good job with that. With patience, I think Alabama will be back if I go there or not. They’re going to be a good team down the road. Coach Grant is a good coach and a good recruiter”

Here’s what Lacey’s high school coach, Jack Doss, had to say about Lacey’s relationship with Grant…
“They have an excellent relationship. Grant’s worked really, really hard, and so has Coach Barbee. The main thing is a relationship with the head coach because he’s going to put him in. It’s not the assistant coaches. It’s going to be the head coach who puts him in.”

I would love to see Lacey end up at UK. You can never have too many people that can shoot like this. Some of these shots remind me of Tayshaun Prince against UNC….
