UK Swimmers Compete in US Olympic Trials

Olympic fever is officially in the air. With only thirty days to go until the opening ceremony in London, there are still athletes vying for the chance to participate in the competition of a lifetime.

Of course, Kentucky has centered much of its attention on Olympic hopeful Anthony Davis. After achieving national acclaim in collegiate basketball, it is anticipated that he could be a valuable asset on the international level as well. Bow to the brow, London.

But lest we forget, there are a multitude of talented athletes coming out of UK in sports other than basketball. This year Kentucky is sending nine swimmers (five current students and four alumni) to Omaha, Nebraska to compete in the U.S. Olympic trials meet.

The trials, which began Monday, are slated to last one week. With a limited number of spots available on the highly successful U.S. team, these nine Wildcats face some fierce competition. Combined, the Kentucky swimmers will compete in a total of sixteen different events.

The current UK swimmers include one freshman, two sophomores, and two juniors, and the competing alumni have all graduated within the past five years.

The Olympic trials will air on the NBC Sports Network until July 2[SUP]nd[/SUP]. Go Big Blue!
