UK Pounds the Portland Pilots

“Y”? Cuz…we’re awesome?

It appears to me that this UK team is tired of playing these pitiful teams and ready to start playing some REAL competition. That competition includes St. Johns and the nation’s #1 team UNC. Those games are in a few days. Before that the Cats had to deal with a scrappy Portland team.

UK started off a little sluggish in the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] half against the Portland Pilots. Pilots? Pilots of what, lame white boy aircraft? Anywho, Portland shot just 30 % but out rebounded the Cats 21-16 in the 1[SUP]st[/SUP]. UK looked like they would pull away in the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] half and complete their usual 50 point drubbing. Alas, Portland would have something to say about being another fatality of a 50 burger blowout.

As the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] half started, Portland slowly triple-screened their way back into the game. As all of the Nation of Blue collectively blinked, they found that their beloved wildcats only up 6 with 16 min to go. It was at that moment the basketball wildcats turned up the full-court pressure and proceeded to show why they are the favorites to win it all.

First it was a double team by Davis and Jones that set up a Teague to Davis alley oop. At that moment everyone thought that would have been play of the game. That was until MKG stole the ball and jumped from half court and dunked on the entire Portland team. Or at least that’s how I remember it. Here’s the video, see for yourself:

After that point, the Cats dominated and closed it out.
Terrence Jones had 19 points but only 4 rebounds. Darius Miller also had 19 points on 4 of 5 3-point shooting. MKG had 11 points and 8 rebounds, Davis had 13, 12 and 5 blocks, and Lamb had 9 points and 4 assists. The delightful surprise of the night was Marquis Teague. He had 14 points, 4 steals, 8 assists and 0 turnovers. Hmm, he might make it afterall.

Good, not great, but good game by the Cats. Portland played very well despite being out manned and 2 million miles from home, but it was all for naught as they lost 87-63. Next up is the Johnies, Thursday Dec. 1[SUP]st[/SUP] at 7:30 pm. I got your red storm right here.
