UK Hoops used their defensive pressure to suffocate the Jacksonville Gamecocks this morning at Memorial Coliseum, beating them 100-25.
Kentucky caused 48 turnovers in routing the OVC squad, breaking the previous school record of 43 turnovers. Every player besides 1 had a steal for Matthew Mitchell’s squad totaling 25.
Halftime was a welcome site for Jacksonville State as Kentucky took a 49-13 lead into the locker room.
UK shot only 40% in the 1st half and a chilling 2-14 from the three point line, but they shot 29 more times than the Gamecocks, making 15 more of them.
The second half was no different as Kentucky kept the pressure up, going on a 30-5 run in the first 10 minutes until really laying off the gas pedal to the home opening win.
A’dia Mathies led Kentucky with 18 points and 10 rebounds. She only shot 5-13 from the field but an excellent 8-9 from the free throw line.
Sophomore Bernisha Pinkett had 18 points on a crisp 7-11 clip, freshman Azia Bishop had 11, and Maegan Conwright and Bria Goss both finished with 10.
