UK Hoops Drops Their Second To Georgia

When you look at the boxscore of tonight’s Kentucky and Georgia game, you would be more apt to believe that the lights truly were out in Georgia, as Kentucky shot a season low 2-23 from behind the 3-point line. The 8.7% from behind the arc, was the key in tonight’s 69-51 loss.

Kentucky looked tired from the initial tip. In a game that mirrored the Arkansas game, Kentucky could never really get into the flow of their normal run and gun style of play.

Like at Fayetteville, the Cats legs looked like they were nailed to the floor, causing my mother to make the same statement I was thinking, is Mitchell practicing the team too hard or is it just a flat out lack of effort on behalf of the Cats?

Kentucky led for a total of zero seconds and was tied with Georgia for eight seconds, the first eight seconds of the game, until Jasmine James opened the scoring with a two-point layup.

Georgia stretched the lead to a game high 18 at the 18:26 mark of the second. Kentucky could never get the deficit out of double-digits.

For a team who is used to creating offense off their turnovers, Kentucky only created 16 turnovers while committing 16 of their own. The Cats were out rebounded 43-34, including giving up 13 offensive boards to the Bulldogs.

UK only had two players in double digits, Dunlap with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Bernisha Pinkett with 12 points. Georgia had five players in double figures with Meredith Mitchell’s game high 16 points leading the way.

Kentucky has dropped three of the last four and has dropped to fourth place in the SEC race as Georgia now maintains sole possession of second and has the tie breakers on the Cats.

On the season, Kentucky is averaging 72.6 points per game, but finished below that mark for the fifth straight game. A stretch where the Cats have shot 50.0%, 25.0%, 25.0%, 18.2% and a season low 8.7%, from behind the 3-point line.

Up next for UK Hoops, the Vanderbilt Commodores at Memorial Gym in Nashville. Tip time is 2:00 p.m. Eastern and will be televised on the SEC Network.

Go Cats!!!
