Tubby is Asked About Cal During Fraud Trial

Former Kentucky Coach Tubby Smith, if you haven’t heard, is on trial for allegedly telling Jimmy Williams he was a new Minnesota assistant coach. Well, he didn’t get the job and Williams is suing Smith for fraud. This has been going on for a couple of weeks and it seems like a trial with no way of knowing who is telling the truth. Anyway, the part I want to talk about is when Tubby was asked about Coach Cal during the proceedings.

Mark(Williams’ lawyer) asked Smith about the current head coach at the University of Kentucky, a job Smith held for 10 years before coming to the university. He noted that John Calipari had NCAA violations while a college coach at Massachusetts and at Memphis — as recently as 2008. “You don’t attribute those being detrimental to his career,” Mark said. “You’re not holding it against him?”
Smith said, “No.”

I am really trying to find out why this question was asked. Was it to make Tubby look as if he plays the revenge card? Cal has nothing really to do with Tubby, especially since he wasn’t the coach hired after Tubby was let go. I also wish something as detrimental to my career could get me the greatest job in the land. Cal has to fight off critics on everything, even in a trial with a former Kentucky coach.
