Tubby Smith Could be Primary Target for Maryland


After 33 outstanding years as a college basketball coach, word is that Maryland coach Gary Williams will retire on Friday.

Being so late in the year for Williams’ decision, the Terrapins will have to act quick if they want to keep their recruits and player intact for the future.

Several names have been thrown around, but a name to watch is none other than former Kentucky coach Tubby Smith.

Smith, a Maryland native, could very easily be drawn to returning home and coaching for his home-state team; however, other names are being discussed.

Sean Miller has been a very popular name, and a source close to Terps Insider says that “Miller would be interested in Maryland job if approached.”

But Dick Vitale seems to agree on Tubby, as he was one of the first to [URL=”http://twitter.com/#%21/DickieV/status/66267529613545472″]publicly announce[/URL] his name via Twitter.
