Troy Williams Receiving Early Interest from Calipari

Troy Williams (Class of 2013, Phoebus HS, Virginia) is a part of one of the most popular AAU teams in the world, Boo Williams. But saying ‘a part’ of the program is a little misleading. Not only is he one of the most premiere players, but Boo Williams is his uncle.

And then there is his aunt, Terri Flournoy. Yes, the women’s coach at Georgetown.

Williams’ basketball roots run deep and he is going to use the valuable resources he has in the recruiting process.

“(Williams and Flournoy) are the people that’s going to help me with my college decision,” explained the 6-foot-6 forward.

Georgetown, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Texas, DePaul, and South Florida have all offered the rising junior thus far, but they aren’t the only schools vying for Williams’ services. Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Miami, Louisville, and Alabama are showing interest as well.

While many would say Georgetown has an unfair advantage in the Troy Williams Sweepstakes, he assured me that he has no favorites to this point. He did admit that the Hoyas are probably recruiting him the hardest because “they stay in touch the most.”

However, he did tell National Recruiting Spotlight this:

“If I had to pick right now, I would visit North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, Georgetown and Virginia Tech.”

His interest for Kentucky is there, and it looks like the interest in mutual. John Calipari is showing a lot of interest in the Virginia native.

“Coach (John) Calipari talks to me the most from Kentucky right now,” Williams explained. “I would say we are building a great relationship and we are really cool with each other.”

A head coach communicating with Williams has also paid dividends thus far for UK.

“It feels good to know a head coach is talking to me the most. It shows the coach and program is really interested in me,” he said. “(Calipari) says he likes my explosiveness and that Kentucky is very interested in me.”

As for Williams’ interest, he cannot ignore what a rich history Kentucky has, as well as players’ success in the NBA. What teenage-kid would not be drawn to Lexington because of the bar that has been set by Calipari?

“Kentucky is definitely a school that is known, and they send a lot of people to the NBA. In the end, that’s my goal. I want to make it to the NBA.”

Kentucky hasn’t been on Williams’ trail quite as long as the other teams that he lists, but it looks like UK is really running high on his radar.

Fans may not know as much about Williams right now, but that is bound to change in the next few months.

With that being said, I am proud to announce that Troy Williams is going to start doing an NOB Recruiting Journal with us; he joins Perry Ellis and Isaiah Lewis, and there are also more players on the way.

Williams’ first edition will come out Saturday night, so make sure to come by and checkout what he has to say!
