I watched the selection show at Morehead State University today and I believe they are the only team in Kentucky that was thrilled about making the tournament.
Morehead was projected to be a 14 or 15 seed and actually snuck up to #13. I don’t think anyone had them projected that high in any bracketology, and even though the Eagles have to play Louisville again, they are thrilled to be back in the dance.
Louisville fans are putting off the vibe they were slighted getting a 4 seed and having to play Kenneth Faried and the Eagles. I tend to agree that Louisville should have at least been a 3 and possibly a 2 seed after the overachieving season they have had.
Now comes the most unbelievable part…Kentucky.
The Cats just won the SEC Tournament, beating Florida for the second time in 9 days, and win their 27th SEC Championship. The Cats received a 4 seed and play the Princeton Tigers on Thursday in Tampa.
The aforementioned Florida Gators received a 2 seed and has sparked debate of how in the world that Billy Donovan’s team got a seed that high after the Wildcats embarrassed them today in Catlanta.
Coach John Calipari has been saying for weeks that the tournament doesn’t mean anything and I guess the committee agrees with him.
So here is my question, why have the SEC Tournament? Why not just be independent like Notre Dame in football? Just travel around and play the best teams in the country and build your resume for the tournament.
I know that will never happen, but it seems to me that the NCAA Selection committee is really clueless. What are your thoughts?
I also have some reaction from All American Kenneth Faried on playing Louisville and Terrence Jennings, getting a 13 seed(I incorrectly said 14 in the video and Kenneth corrected me), and how he really wanted to play Kentucky.
