So what, we lost a game. Coach Cal thought that we could come back from this trip with a 1-4 record. We’ve got a 4-1 record. And the loss could prove to be a good thing for the players and Coach Calipari. “That was a shellacking,” Kentucky coach John Calipari said. “We were outplayed, out-coached, out-everythinged.” Sounds like Coach Cal has some learnings from this one that he’ll take back to Lexington.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
Outplayed: The Wildcats seemed to be outplayed when Terrence Jones wasn’t on the court. Jones scored 24 points in 27 minutes. If he could have played 37 minutes, he may have scored 33 points but the Wildcats would have still fell short. Darius Miller scored 15, a good showing for him. It was the rest of the Wildcats who were outplayed, particularly Knight and Lamb. One or both of these guys have to score double digits for the Wildcats to win.
Out-coached: Coach Cal tried “his” zone defense only briefly before Kemba Walker broke it down. Cal couldn’t get his team going. He’s going to have to get production from more than 2 players in order to put more marks in the win column. Vargas was doing a little something on Wednesday; should he have kept him on the court for more than 19 minutes?
Out-everythinged: UCONN had 4 players with double digit scoring. They were red hot from the field shooting 58% compared to the Wildcats 37%. Kemba Walker out-everythinged everyone he faced in the tournament.
Kentucky faces Boston University on Tuesday, 11-30 at 7:00pm. Hopefully they’ll recuperate from the shellacking in time and get back to shooting. GO BIG BLUE!
