[/COLOR]We all know him as “King” Rex Chapman. Rex is a home grown Blue Blood from Owensboro Kentucky where he played at Apollo High School. Rex still holds the all-time scoring record with 2,286 career points, most field goals with 902 for an incredible 51% career shooting percentage and the most dunks with 75.

Rex went on to be a super star at the University of Kentucky where over a two year window he scored 1,073 points and created a ton of memories, prior to moving on to the Association as the #8 overall pick of the 1988 NBA Draft…
On this day, December 27, 1983, Rex hung 26 points on Denny Crum’s Louisville Cardinals as the Cats destroyed the Birds in Freedom Hall (Rupp North), 81-56. This was the third time, in only seven games, that Chapman wrote 26 in the stats sheet. The first against Bobby Knight’s Indiana Hoosiers and then again, just 14 days later against Boston University.
The day at Freedom Hall is the one Cat fans will remember. Chapman hit 10-20 from the field, including 5-8 from 3-point range and highlighted the thrashing with a second half steal and slam over Kentucky’s Assistant Coach, and Louisville Cardinal then,. Kenny Payne.
Here’s Rex putting on a show.
