In his first six games, Terrence Jones has accumulated a stat line that would make Michael Jordan proud (13,.5 PPG his first season). After six games, Jones is averaging 20.67 points, 10.17 rebounds, 1.30 assist, 1.50 blocked shots in 33 minutes per game.
Compare that to Dan Issel, UK’s leading scorer, and you can get a feel for just how good of a start Jones has produced. Issel averaged 14.83 points and 15.00 rebounds per game in his first six games. One major difference is that Issel was a Sophomore when he played his first six games.

No I don’t expect Terrence Jones to pass Dan Issel for the points scoring leader all time at UK. I don’t expect Jones to be in a Kentucky uniform next year, unless the NBA has a lockout, and that’s looking more and more like a possibility.
But for one month, Terrence Jones is playing out of his mind, and it’s not just the Big Blue Nation that’s taking notice.
ESPN’s Eamonn Brennan listed Jones as his “Best Freshman” in his A Look Back At November article. here is what Eamonn had to say about Jones.
When you beat Duke’s Kyrie Irving (who has seamlessly replaced and remade the Blue Devils’ point guard spot) and Jared Sullinger (whose interior offensive efficiency might win Ohio State a national title this year) you know you’re doing something right. Jones is. The Kentucky freshman gets the nod over Irving, Sullinger and a handful of other frosh for not only excelling but doing so without the help of a team full of skilled veterans surrounding him. Jones is averaging 21.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game, and he can do it all: rebound, penetrate, finish at the rim, score from the perimeter, defend in the post. It’s entirely possible Jones is like Lamar Odom, only slightly more athletic. Yes, that’s exactly as scary as it sounds.
I must admit that I love anything where Kentucky beats Duke and Jones has done just that, grabbing the November Best freshman and the attention of the nation. Expect T Jones to be a high first round pick, if there is a 2011 NBA Draft. Until then, sit back and enjoy Terrence as he will surely only continue to improve throughout the season.
Go Cats!!!
