Terrence Jones Expresses Maturity & Experience at SEC Media Day

HOOVER, Ala. – A year ago, Terrence Jones entered the University of Kentucky as a kid, plain and simple. Now, things have changed.

Not only has his physical shape and basketball game drastically improved, but the 6-foot-9 forward has also matured and became a smarter “kid” as he is maturing into a man and monster on the college basketball level.

“I’ve matured a lot since last season,” he began. “Right now, I would kill myself from last year if we played one-on-one. I more physical and I’m playing with more confidence.”

With getting older, Jones realizes what this year’s freshmen will have to endure to be successful basketball players at Kentucky.

“The incoming freshmen bring a ton to the table. Comparing them to last year’s freshmen class, they have a lot more size. They all have separate abilities, though.”

Here is what he had to say about the four incoming freshmen:

Anthony Davis: “He’s going to block a lot of shots and be a big impact on defense.”

Kyle Wiltjer: “He is going to stretch the floor and be very valuable.”

Marquis Teague: “Marquis is playing great defensively. He’s going to really help.”

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist: “He is our best all-around player. He works so hard, it’s hard not to notice him.”

However, Jones was quick to note to not forget about Darius Miller, who has been loyal to the Kentucky program for four years.

“Darius is going to be a big key factor for us. His experience is big, and he has been playing well so far.”

What should we expect from Terrence Jones after his 52-point outburst last night? Don’t look into it too much.

“Bad defense (is why I had 52 points),” he cited, as the media members chuckled. “I don’t have any expectations stat-wise for this season. Each game, there will be someone different. I just want to do whatever I can to help my team win.”

Sure, Jones is scoring in bunches right now, and he is obviously talented, but he will not be looking to be Calipari’s one-and-only star.

“Right now, I’m leading by example, and I’m working hard. When the season comes, it will be different people. Coach [John] Calipari doesn’t have to tell me much anymore. I know what I have to do (to be successful).”
