Before the game today, Tee Martin was named as the “Passing Game Coordinator”. It was reported that Martin was receiving offers from Alabama. Martin staying at UK is definitely a great sign for the future of UK Football.
Martin’s previous contract paid him $160,000 (plus incentives) through June of 2012. Today, we’re not sure what he’s making but you can feel confident it was a very serious increase.
Martin said Saturday that other schools “expressed interest” in hiring him in recent weeks, though he declined to name specific schools, or to address speculation that Alabama was among those with interest.
Martin never got far enough in the process to interview with any school, he said.
“People called around and wanted to gauge interest, but I remained loyal to my boss,” Martin said. “It wasn’t a situation where (Phillips) and I were out of the loop in terms of our communication. We spent a lot of time this past week on the road (recruiting), and the moment I heard something he heard it.”
Martin said he “would fall on the sword” for Phillips.
“He said, ‘We’re going to do what we have to do to keep you here,’ and I told him, ‘I want to be here,'” Martin said. “We got it done, and to me, it was a no-brainer. Every day I come to work, I’m excited about coming to work.”

Did you catch this part?…”Martin said he “would fall on the sword” for Phillips.” That’s a pretty big statement. We all know how quick things can change when you’re not winning. Martin having this much confidence in Joker says a lot about our future and the Job that Joker is doing.
Think about it… He could work for Nick Saban, but instead, he’ll stay at UK and “fall on the sword” for Joker Phillips if he needs to.
Very powerful statement!
