In the midst of a potential commitment to Kentucky for DeMarcus Sweat, many turned their heads away from others that impressed at Kentucky’s Skills Camp on Sunday. One of those talented players was WR/CB Shawn Blaylock, Jr.
Blaylock, who looks to put up big numbers for Stephenson High School (Georgia) for next season on both sides of the ball, went into Sunday wanting to take part in both the receiving drills and defensive back drills.
“I’m going to play both ways at receiver and corner and hope that gives them more to look at,” Blaylock said earlier in the week.
When it came down to Sunday, the six foot athlete took part in both individual drills, but only participated in one-on-one drills at corner back.
“I put up some good numbers,” he explained. “I had a couple of interceptions and a nice pass break-up.”
In fact, he had three interceptions and that pass deflection, as he announced on his Twitter page, via @GOIN_DEEP18.
Blaylock also spent time with a ton of coaches during the visit, as well as touring the campus.
“DeMarcus and I had some conversations with Coach (Joker) Phillips and that went really well,” he began. “Then Kristof Ricks (another teammate) and I had a good talk with Coach Steve Brown, the defensive backs coach.”
“It was a real homey environment, too. We had some former Stephenson players out cheering us on, and that was a great feeling,” Blaylock said. “The facilities were great, too. Everything was state of the art.”
Overall, Blaylock said the visit went really well and he really enjoyed everything. Only an offer could have made it better.
“The coaches told me they were going to follow me very heavily, so hopefully I can get an offer this summer or sometime in the season.”
It is obvious the rising senior is looking for a Kentucky offer, as are his teammates, T.J. Moon and Ricks, just like Sweat achieved.
With time, I think all three of them will receive offers to UK. You never know, the ‘Cats could also pull in some more commitments as well.
With the school year concluded, things are really going to open up for recruits, and while Blaylock isn’t sure of any visits right now, he plans to camp throughout the summer.
“Next weekend we have the UGA 7-on-7, so I’m definitely going to attend and try to impress people there too,” he said.
Blaylock is going to continue to work towards adding Kentucky to the list of offers he already owns, which include Arkansas State and Middle Tennessee State.
Stay tuned for some hopeful video and photos of Shawn throughout his day at the camp.
