Several juniors left Lexington with new offers from Kentucky yesterday, including [B]Shane Jones[/B], a linebacker from Moeller High School (Cincinnati, Ohio).
While all the recruits that received offers were happy, it may have meant a little more for Jones and his family.
“The whole way to Kentucky, my dad talked about how he knew Coach [Joker] Phillips. So when he offered me, we were all happy,” Jones began. “When Coach Phillips personally offered me, I looked over and my parents had big smiles on their faces.”
Kentucky joins a long list of impressive suitors for the 2013 linebacker, as he also has offers from Nebraska, Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Indiana, Cincinnati, Arizona, and Ohio, along with interest from others.
Jones also really enjoyed his Junior Day experience in Lexington.
“When Coach Phillips pulled my family aside and offered me, that was really nice. But the rest of the visit was impressive, too. I loved the tours they gave. It seems like a very comfortable place.”
Comfort and the coaching staff are major factors for Jones when it comes to his college decision.
Saturday marked the first contact Jones had with the Kentucky staff, thus the Cats are new to Jones’ recruitment. Nevertheless, he denies having an early leaders to this point.
“I spoke with Coach [Rick] Minter, Coach [Mike] Cassity, and Coach [Chuck] Smith the most during the visit. They were all really nice.”
