Saturday night’s alright for fighting

Don’t give us none of your aggravationWe had it with your disciplineSaturday night’s alright for fightingGet a little action in-Elton JohnCan you feel it yet? That tingly, vibrant feeling running up and down your spine? The one that lets you know that there is a particular game tonight?Friends, it doesn’t get much bigger than this. Final Four. National stage. Eyes of the nation watching. And it just so happens to be Kentucky vs. Louisville.Don’t give us none of your aggravation…You want aggravation? The media has aggravated this game, and the accompanying storylines, to the nth degree. I have read every manner of article I could possibly read, articles in favor of, and against, both teams. And both coaches. This thing has been dissected from every angle possible. I saw a middle-school science class frog yesterday, and he said “man, they have cut this thing into pieces.” Then his leg fell off.I actually had to remind myself earlier this week that Kansas and Ohio State are also in the Final Four. That’s how bad it is.You want aggravation? You think the Kentucky players aren’t aggravated over Chris Smith running his mouth like a goon? Apparently, Anthony Davis, he of every single national POY trophy this year, needs to be worried about Gorgui Dieng, he of the “starvation to learn”. Sure, it’s just Smith showing confidence in his teammates, but at some point, you are just providing cannon fodder. And there is a Big Blue cannon pointed right at you, Chris. We had it with your discipline…Give Kentucky credit. They have said the right things this week. They have, for the most part, stayed away from Twitter. Darius Miller even said that they are there to win a title, not party. Discipline is what gets it done at this point. But I suspect that discipline is gonna take a back seat at times tonight. This is a blood feud anyway, let alone the fact it happens to be a national semifinal. Methinks it’ll get chippy.Saturday night’s alright for fighting…This will be a fight, that’s for sure. If not on the scoreboard, at least on the floor. There will so much defensive pressure that the postgame show will be sponsored by Vicks VapoRub. Because, you know, no one will be able to breathe. Don’t look at me that way.I’m torn. Part of me thinks it will be a sloppy affair, with both teams so eager to get started that offensive efficiency goes out the window. But then, part of me thinks Kentucky will be the same well-oiled, cold-blooded, ruthless machine they’ve been the whole tournament, which is probably a more likely scenario. I’m absolutely giddy right now thinking about this game. I can’t wait to see how both teams play, given the rivalry and the stakes. While I’d like to see a hard-fought close game, I think I’d rather see Kentucky dominate from the opening tip, which they have the capability to do.And I wouldn’t mind seeing Anthony Davis finally get that triple-double. He becomes an instant legend if that happens (of course, he’ll have to get Gorgui Dieng’s permission first). Get a little action in…So what happens? This game could go about 5 different ways, but I’m gonna pick one and hope it’s right. I think Louisville looks a little more composed early on, and perhaps even takes a bit of a lead within the first 8 minutes or so. But after Kentucky gets settled in, it’ll be over.Remember how bad they made Baylor look, with that ridiculous 35-8 (or thereabouts) run? Remember how they went from being tied with Iowa State, to being up 24 within 10 minutes? When that team shows up, it’s all over but the crying. How this game plays out depends largely on Rick Pitino’s strategy going in. He’s still a great defensive coach, and I’m sure there will be some full-court pressure, but Kentucky simply has too many weapons. I’m saying Kentucky by 9, 83-74.Man, is this going to be a fun game.Saturday night’s alright for fighting…Indeed.
