Sandy Creek’s Hilton Calls ‘Cats His Leader

Sandy Creek High School (Tyrone, GA) is already filled with a ton of division one talent. Big time players such as four-star receiver JaQuay Williams and Florida defensive tackle commit Quinteze Williams are usually the ones that many are reminded of.

But, for Kentucky, Athlete Mike Hilton is someone they are really after.

Hilton, who is listed at 5’9″ 175, is compared by many to former ‘Cat standout Randall Cobb and Ole Miss Rebel Dexter McCluster.

“It’s great to be compared to them (Cobb and McCluster). To know what they’ve both done in college and what people think I can do too is great,” Hilton said.

Along with the comparison, Hilton has embraced the fact of having former National Championship player and current receivers coach Tee Martin of being his main recruiter.

“It’s good to get his opinion since he’s been in the situation of being a National Champion. I believe he knows his stuff because of it. When he tells you that you can accomplish great things, it really raises your confidence, and it make me respect him more.”

While Hilton and many other prospects dream of that National Championship one day, he also wants to do other things first.

“First, I want to graduate. Because if football doesn’t work out I want to become a sports anchor,” Hilton began. “Second, I want to go the next level and play in the NFL if that’s possible. Thirdly, I’d like to win that National Championship.”

Hilton is already making plans to choose where he will try to accomplish his goals by naming a few teams that stick out at the moment.

“Kentucky is my leader. They play in the SEC and that is the best of the best. You always want to put yourself against the best. They (Kentucky) may not put a lot of people in the NFL, but they do put them there.”

Even though the ‘Cats seem to be the leader at the moment, Hilton also told us where everyone else sits.

“Southern Miss is my number two. They may not be the best team either, but they told me I can come in and do what I want which is play.”

Along with Southern Miss, the Cincinnati Bearcats also are still in play.

“They are third because they were the first to offer. The only thing that is killing them is the distance. I also have a former teammate that is already up there,” he added.

Even though the top three might be set, Hilton added that another SEC school may be in play come this weekend.

“I’m going to visit Ole Miss and Mississippi State this Saturday and Sunday. Mississippi State is showing a lot of interest and said they would offer if they like what I see. If they do offer, they would probably bump into my top three.”

With all of the talent that Sandy Creek has, they might have another future ‘Cat in offensive lineman Will Adams. Adams and Hilton have mentioned the fact of playing along side each other at the next level.

Hilton and Adams will come up to Lexington on June 17th to camp and visit. Hilton is being recruited by Kentucky at running back. He will likely a decision either before the season or late summer.
