Rout? Hammer? Steamroll?

These are all words today’s media used to describe what isports more politely dubbed ‘UK comes up short’ against UConn. Was it really that bad? Well, yes and no. Kentucky getting beat by anybody by 17 points is bad (I think the worst loss last year was, like, 7?). However, let’s remember a few things.

First, it’s early in the season. This is certainly not a foreshadowing of what UK’s entire season will look like.

Second, UConn is hot right now. Very hot. Remember, this is the team that pulled an upset over Michigan State the night before. Kemba Walker is amazing, and if they continue to play as they are, they will be in the final four.

Third, UK is still young. Kentucky made some great corrections in the games vs. Oklahoma and Washington. Heck, Kentucky made corrections against UConn (they outscored the Huskies 38-34 in the second half). And how about Jones’ free-throw shooting?

This was a loss, but UConn is a great team. And at the end of the year, when the NCAA committee is looking at wins & losses to determine placement, I don’t think this one will reflect particularly badly against the Cats.
