Relf will be Key for Mississippi State

Hoover, Ala—Quarterbacks are typically the players that the average fan tends to recognize. With much emphasis set on their shoulders, the play-callers receive the most attention. As for Mississippi State quarterback Chris Relf, he felt the attention on Wednesday.

While Relf didn’t receive quite the attention South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore did, he had several questions tossed his way, ranging from his need to become a leader on the field to the team’s expectations in the SEC West.

At this point, Relf has one goal: to win the SEC West, and then an SEC Championship.

“We want to win the West. We want to come in first. That’s (the team) is working hard.”
But to advance to Atlanta, the Bulldogs will rely heavily on the talented quarterback. With that said, it will be necessary for Relf to be on the field. When asked whether he would run as much compared to last season, Relf had this to say:

“I expect to (run and pass). I’ve got a good running ability and a good throwing abilitity.”
The rising senioralso stayed in Starkville in May to polish some of his skills to make him a successful quarterback.

“I stayed (at school) instead of going home,” he began. “I worked on my quickness to develop myself as a quarterback.”

There was also a series of questions that centered around the leadership role bounded to a quarterback. While Relf does admit that he may not have been vocal enough last season, he plans to change such things this year. In fact, he is already making a difference by mouth.

“I think last year I was trying to sit back and lead by example. This year, I’ve been more vocal, starting in the spring, to be more vocal on the field.”

Despite the SEC West having top-notch programs, Relf also believes it’s time for the conference to pass the torch to a new team.

“They (media) say Alabama, LSU (at the top), but we’re working hard for our turn and we’ll see.”

We will indeed see, Mr. Relf.
