On Saturday, 15 Wildcat seniors will suit up for their last game at Commonwealth Stadium and although Randall Cobb isn’t one of them, Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt could be his last in Lexington.
Cobb said after Tuesday’s practice that he will weigh his NFL Draft options after the season and decide whether to return to UK for his senior year.
[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]“I plan to put my name out there and see what’s being said,” Cobb said. “I’ll check it out. It’s a process. It’s something where I’m going to have to wait and see.”
Coach Phillips said he would allow Cobb to honorted in Senior Day this Saturday if he wishes, stating that “He’s got to tell us. I’m not going to bring it up.”
Cobb taking part in Senior Day festivities seems unlikely. Cobb said he’s torn between looking toward his future and returning in 2011 to try and bolster the fortunes of the UK program.
“It’s hard,” he said. “It’s going to be one of the hardest decisions I’ll make. There’s a lot that I still want to accomplish. There’s still a lot that I’ve set my mind for to try and do for this program. We haven’t made all the expectations I planned on, but we have done a lot the past three years I’ve been here. There’s a lot that’s going to weigh into the decision.”
It’s hard for me to imagine that Randall would officially submit his name and attempt to move to the next level, although I believe he’s NFL material. He’s not big and he doesn’t possess NFL speed for a wide out, he’s a lot like Pittsburgh’s Hines Ward.
Ward, a quarterback at Georgia, was converted to wide out once he was drafted by the Steeler’s, a position that has fit him and the Steeler’s scheme perfectly. Randall seems to fit the Hines Ward model.
It’s hard to imagine a 2011 season without Mr Everything on the sidelines. Whatever the decision, as a Wildcat fan, I will enjoy every future Randall Cobb moment as much as I have all of those that have come before.
