Poor Shooting Dooms Kentucky in Houston

The Connecticut Huskies are headed to the NCAA Division I national championship game after knocking off Kentucky 56-55 on Saturday night in Houston.

Kemba Walker led UConn (31-9) with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Jeremy Lamb added 12 points and 8 rebounds. Big man Alex Oriakhi had 8 points and 10 rebounds.

Kentucky (29-9) was led by Brandon Knight’s 14 points and 8 rebounds. Knight was only 6-23 from the field and 2-10 from long range, however. Terrence Jones had 11 points, 15 rebounds and 5 steals. Doron Lamb came off the bench to score 13 points.

The Wildcats were doomed by poor shooting. They finished 21-62 (33.9%) from the field and only 4-12 (33.3%) from the free throw line.

Connecticut was 23-49 (46.9%) from the field and 9-11 (81.8%) from the charity stripe.

The Huskies will battle Butler on Monday night for the national championship.
