Phillips Commits To Kentucky

The Kentucky Wildcats have come up big in the second week of June in the football recruiting world adding two commits in consecutive days. Alvonte Bell made the decision yesterday, making him the second commit for the 2013 class. Now for the second day in a row, a commit has come in by the name of Reese Phillips, a quarterback from Signal Mountain, Tennessee around the Chattanooga area has made his choice by becoming the third commit for the Wildcats. Just yesterday, Phillips told me of how excited he was to visit the Wildcats and it is very possible that he will pull the trigger and commit. However, as we know, the three-star quaterback according to 247sports.com has decided to move up is decision date and commit on the spot while on a visit in Lexington.

“It was very surreal to me once I found out that they offered. Coming from an SEC school it was pretty awesome. It was definitely a place I wanted to get an offer from, and I see it as something special.”

While you’d think his game highlights would have to show out for UK to offer him right? Well not according to Phillips, the Tennessee quarterback said his school only throws the ball ten to fifteen times a game, making it hard for recognition. However, Phillips stated that Randy Sanders was very impressed when he saw him throw.

“I always told myself to be patient. I was confident that I would get that SEC offer, and Kentucky just popped out of no where. When Coach Sanders came to see me throw, I was in love. I grew up following Tennessee (Vols) and I always liked the offense that they ran, and the way he worked with quaterbacks. He quickly became of one my favorties. ”

But will an Vols offer take away the commitment?

“Tennessee is a sensitive subject to me. I grew a UT fan, but now I really wanna go to a place like Kentucky so I can have that chance to beat them.”

With top instate target Patrick Towles signing in the 2012 recruiting class, the offer to Phillips was unexpected to many. Nevertheless, Phillips said there is an endless opportunity to play quaterback at UK.

“I don’t think there is a quaterback there that has established himself yet. I know they have a guy coming in, but I still think I can come in and it be the best situation for me. I actually want to be redshirted for the mental factor of the game. I want to learn the playbook, and just get myself ready for the future.”

With his commitment, the Wildcats will surely be looking heavily to add other playmakers to help out the three-star commit. But as we know in this day and time, will his commitment stay solid?

Be sure to get a full follow up coming later on.
