Over the weekend, Georgia’s Milton High School had a handful of visitors in Lexington to visit for Junior Day. There is no doubt, the collective group really enjoyed their visit to the Commonwealth.
Of the talented recruits from Georgia, running back Peyton Barber could be the most impressive.
Barber, who currently holds offers from Clemson, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Louisville, and UCF, picked up an offer from Kentucky a couple of days prior to his visit this weekend.
However, he has heard about Kentucky for several years from his coaches, who also played at UK during the 1990s.
“My coaches (Mike Scott and Todd Perry) talk about how great a place Kentucky is,” Barber laughed. “They have always said it was a great atmosphere and the fans were great.
After his visit to Kentucky on Saturday, he realized what his coaches meant.
“I definitely liked the Junior Day experience. The fans are really nice, and I enjoyed everything.”
Barber was also impressed by the basketball game atmosphere against Vanderbilt.
“I didn’t really have many questions coming into the day, but I just mainly wanted to see campus. I like the facilities and everything I saw,” Barber explained.
Despite being in the early process of his recruitment, Barber already has three main factors when it comes to a school:
“The school I commit to will have to feel like home. I also want to get on the field quick, and I am looking for the coaching staff to help me in my academic interests too.”
David Turner has handled Barber’s commitment to this point, and over the weekend, he and the staff assured the 5-foot-10 back that he would be one of the biggest backs in a few years. In the SEC, big backs are needed to endure the big hits delivered by the top defenses in the country.
The two parties also have stayed in close contact over the past few months.
“I think Kentucky is pretty interested in me. I usually talk to a coach once-a-week or so.”
Expect the staff to continue to stay in close-contact with Barber over the next few months, as well as his respective teammates who are also interested in Kentucky.
