For a year Kentucky Wildcats fans had the pleasure to get to know a little bit more about DeMarcus Cousins as a player and as a person. We came to know a comedic, hard working young man that left nothing on the floor and brought a ton of personality. During the same year, Kentucky fans also learned all too well how to defend Cousins and his approach to the game.

After some not so uncommon problems early on in high school that people hold on to and bring up when discussing Cousins maturity, Cousins decided to surround himself with better people. “After making my mistakes in Birmingham, I knew I really had to change if I’m trying to make it,” Cousins said in this story with Sacbee.com. “I started listening a lot more, surrounding myself with better people, better role models if you want to say that. Just changed my whole mind-set on life and tried to be a better person.”
Kentucky fans know what kind of person he is and often defend that he is misunderstood. Sacramento fans are now learning that. It’s a passion for the game. It’s fire on the court. “When I get going, I zone out,” Cousins said. “So somebody might start talking trash, and I’ll be like, ‘Yeah, let’s go.’ I’m fired up, and I guess you can say that gets me in a little trouble, but I’ve just got to control it. Then again, anytime I play with no emotion, it feels like I’m going through the motions and I’m just another player on the floor.”
The world will soon learn what those closest to DeMarcus already know. Boogie brings it every game, leaves nothing on the court and has a great time doing it. There’s nothing wrong with that; it’s what every GM and NBA head coach wants.
