Notable Performances from Peach Jam Thursday Morning

There were several performances at the 2011 Peach Jam Thursday early session, that were very deserving of the attention they drew from the many college coaches in attendance. Here are some of the more notable efforts…

[*]UK recruit, and 2012 top forward Brandon Ashley scored 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in an abbreviated stint, as his Drew Gooden Soldiers destroyed Louisiana Select. Afterwards, the 6-foot-10 Ashley let it slip to a group of surrounding reporters that the west coast schools on his list may have a slight edge in his recruitment, because they have been recruiting him longer, and not because of the distance factor. Nationofblue.com will have a more in-depth story coming soon.

[*]· Chicago Simeon guard Jabari Parker, a top UK target for 2013, has had an unbelievable tournament this week, and it continued Thursday. The 6-foot-7 Parker scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds as the Mac Irvin Fire beat CIA Bounce. Parker’s teammate, Billy Garrett, Jr. poured in 24 points. Garrett is a DePaul commit, aMorgan Park High School product, and is also 2013.

[*]· Arkansas Wings Elite guard Archie Goodwin, another UK priority, but for 2012, scored 30 points in a very impressive win over Team Takeover from the Washington DC area. Goodwin is a five-star recruit, and has talked about visiting UK soon. After the game, Goodwin said he would start his visits very probably in August and that he was 99% sure UK would get a visit. Goodwin showed some hustle in nabbing 6 rebounds, too. Courtside was buzzing after the game, about how he just took over when his team needed him to.

[*]· Put 2013 target Julius Randle on the UK radar. Randle had his best performance of the tournament with a gym full of high profile college coaches watching, as his impressive Team Texas Titans escaped with a win over Boo Williams. The 6-foot-8, 245-pound Randle had 19 points and 14 rebounds, and was spurred by a little trash talking by Boo Williams’ Justin Anderson, a five-star recruit who has committed to Virginia. Randle said afterwards that he has heard from “everybody, and that’s including UK”. Randle’s teammate, Matthew Jones, a 6-foot-4 guard from Desoto, Texas, scored 21 points and 9 rebounds, raising many eyebrows around the gym.

[*]· Disappointment for two UK targets. The Albany City Rocks team, with both 2012 five-star prospects Ricardo Ledo and Dajuan Coleman, were beaten by California Supreme, and were close to being eliminated from the tourney. Ledo scored 20 points and had 5 rebounds, and Coleman had a double-double, with 17 points and 13 rebounds. But it wasn’t enough. And maybe tellingly, the gym emptied shortly after halftime. The City Rocks coach would not let the media talk with any of his players following the game.

[*]· LJ Rose scored 6 points and had 2 rebounds for his Houston Hoops team in a loss to the Georgia Stars. Afterwards, Rose said that UK was not really a player in his recruitment anymore. Former UK target and big man, Tony Parker had 18 points and 9 rebounds for the Stars. Clemson commit and three-star forward Jaron Blossomgame had a nice game with 21 and 9.

[*]· Former UK target and top 2012 guard prospect Rodney Purvis had 16 points, but his CP3 team lost to Playaz. Purvis has had a quiet, unspectacular, if consistent, performance in North Augusta. Purvis recently dropped UK from his list, after the Cats secured the transfer of Ryan Harrow from NC State.
