Most fans aren’t really looking to pay attention to freshmen quite yet because they have so much time to develop and make household names for themselves in the future.
Although Xavier Rathan-Mayes (Class of 2014, Christian Faith Center Academy, NC) is just a freshman, he deserves to have his name out there to Kentucky fans, just like household-name Dakari Johnson.
After all, Kentucky is showing some early interest in the Canadian.
“I haven’t had a chance to talk to the coaches individually yet, but they really talk to my coach right now,” Rathan-Mayes explained.
“I have a lot of interest in Kentucky though. It is a great place to play and it is one of the places I could see myself playing in the future,” he went on to say with enthusiasm.
While he is still very young, Rathan-Mayes still has a good bit of teams hot on his recruiting trail. He is yet to have a list, but does have “favorites”.
They include the following: North Carolina, Florida State, Kentucky, Kansas, Kansas State, and Texas.
However, he still has more that have offered him a scholarship; North Carolina State, St. John’s, Texas, Marquette, Penn State, Wake Forest, and Kansas have all reached out to him.
“Texas is recruiting me the hardest. They stay in close touch with me all the time.”
Rathan-Mayes is currently attending Christian Faith Center Academy in North Carolina; however, he is native to Toronto.
He is a part of the new generation of Canadian basketball that is sweeping the world, including U.S. high schools and colleges. He enjoys being one of the many Canadian stars.
“Canadian basketball is on the rise and there is a lot of great talent. I’m really looking forward to possibly having the opportunity to represent my country,” he raved.
It will only be time for this youngster. He has some great talent.
