By now most individuals are aware of the slew of scandals coming from former Kentucky Agricultural Commissioner Richie Farmer’s time in office. And though the thought of Richie trying to peddle a fax machine in a back alley somewhere is sure to draw a laugh, the reality of the situation is far from funny.

Last month First National Bank of Manchester filed a foreclosure lawsuit on Richie’s Frankfort home…today there is a “for sale by owner” sign in the front yard. According to Jack Brammer of the Lexington Herald-Leader, master commissioner for Franklin Circuit Court, Charlie Jones, says this is a typical response made by defendants.

“It’s not unusual for defendants in a foreclosure suit to try to sell their property on their own before the master commissioner has to sell it at a foreclosure sale.”

Farmer’s wife, who filed divorce earlier last year, is also listed on the suit. The couple owes over $300,000 on their mortgage which hasn’t been paid since January 2011. If the house sells but does not bring in enough to pay the debt they could still face a court order that would force them to pay the remainder.
