Mitch Barnhart’s Salary Top 20 in Nation

Mitch Barnhart has done a great job of improving athletics as a whole at the University of Kentucky since he took over in 2002.

Should Mitch make more?

I guess we should first look at how much he makes on a yearly basis, and since the USA Today released the salaries for every AD in the nation today we have a good idea where Barnhart stands on a national scale.

The University of Kentucky pays Barnhart an annual salary of $650,000, receives $5,050 from another source, for a total of $655,050.

Barnhart’s salary is 18th in the nation, which is way behind Louisville’s Tom Jurich’s $1,427,704, which is good for 3rd in the nation.

Other notable school’s that pay their AD more:

Vanderbilt’s David Williams $2,560,505
Florida’s Jeremy Foley $1,545,250
Duke’s Kevin White $908,659
Tennessee’s Dave Hart Jr. $750,000
LSU’s Joe Alleva $725,000

Am I the only one surprised that Vandy’s AD gets 2.5 million? Vandy actually did away with their athletic department a couple of years ago.

Williams is also vice chancellor for university affairs and athletics; general counsel and university secretary for Vanderbilt and its medical center; fully tenured professor of law.

So, what does everyone think?

Should Barnhart get more, or should the football program get better before he does?
