Anyone who thinks Kentucky’s Athletic Director sits behind a desk all day, think again.
As the head of UK Athletics for ten years, Mitch Barnhart has witnessed a large number of achievements under his leadership. Now he is setting his sights on what could be one of his greatest personal achievements. Barnhart has left his duties in the bluegrass state behind and is currently scaling Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
Kilimanjaro being the highest peak in Africa at 19,350 feet above sea level, this will prove to be no easy feat. Yesterday Barnhart began his journey up the mountain and shared this tweet updating the Big Blue Nation on his progress thus far:
Completed day one of my ascent of Mt. Kilimanjaro w/ Mark Tucker of RMI Expeditions. Beautiful day near 80 degrees. We are now at 9,800′

While not a particularly relaxing vacation, it is quite impressive that Barnhart is using his time off to participate in such a challenging expedition. His drive to succeed obviously translates outside the realm of collegiate athletics.
Now we are just waiting for a picture of him at the peak with his Kentucky shirt on.
Go Big Blue!
