Meyer to the Majors, Others Remain Unsigned

LEX18 is reporting that former UK right-handed pitcher Alex Meyer has agreed to terms with the Washington Nationals, thus ending any speculation that he would return to UK for his senior year. Not that there was much speculation, Meyer was drafted in the first round of this year’s MLB draft, but the devil is in the details when it comes to professional contracts.

The good news for UK fans is, the deadline has passed and we haven’t heard of any other UK players who were drafted that signed contracts. In fact, we know that catcher Michael Williams will be returning to the UK lineup, and we reported here earlier that incoming freshmen Taylor Martin, Chandler Shepherd and Greg Fettes have confirmed they will be foregoing the majors to begin their college careers.

The only unconfirmed at this point are shortstop Max Kuhn, right-handed pitcher A.J. Reed and JUCO lefty Jerad Grundy. None have signed that we know of, so we expect them to be on campus, but I will confirm today that they are attending UK.

Great incoming class for the Bat Cats, it’s gonna be a fun year.
