Men’s Basketball – Giving Back

Hunger in America… In the richest country on Earth, it’s hard to imagine that anyone goes to bed hungry at night, but for children and adults around Kentucky, many are all too familiar with a growing problem.

Tuesday, the Kentucky Men’s Basketball program went to work to help offset this problem. Teamed up with God’s Pantry Food Bank, the young Cats gave back to those who are less fortunate, by stuffing bags for the BackPack Program, that will be distributed to elementary school children, in need of food, to take home on weekends and during school vacations.
”The stories you hear are the kids aren’t even eating the food. The family doesn’t have enough food so mom, dad, brothers, and sisters are using the bag to feed the whole family for the weekend,” says Marc Hill, the assistant to the Athletics Director.

“That statement really blows my mind because I didn’t grow up in one of those families and I was very privileged not to, but some of my friends were and it’s nice to get back and give back,” says Jon Hood.
The team and staff will deliver the bags on Thursday to Picadome, Lansdowne and Cassidy Elementary Schools, where they will also take some time TO hang out with the students.
