Meet Ashley Carnes

The big news last week was definitely Mike Hartline. I’ve listened to many fans discuss what happened and at some point they all say something close to this… “Hartline and a Cheerleader”. So who’s this cheerleader?

“The Cheerleader” is Ashley Carnes and this is not her first time making the news. She actually answered a few questions for esquire.com during last years NCAA tournament. I’m sure she answered questions for law enforcement on Thursday night.

Here’s what she had to say.

Ever have any run-ins with creepy cameramen?
Ashley Carnes, Kentucky: I have had a few run-ins with aggressive cameramen, but not so much creepy ones. All you can do is just keep smiling and be as natural as you can.

Who’s the best player in the tournament?
Ashley Carnes, Kentucky: I consider John Wall the very best. Television does him no justice — he’s much better live. Some say that he’s too young and inexperienced to be the best, but I think his age is what makes him that much more amazing.

Kentucky has won seven titles, but the cheerleaders have won 18, including the last three. Edge?
Ashley Carnes, Kentucky: The cheerleaders definitely have bragging rights — there’s never a year that competitors are not fearful of the UK cheer squad. But hopefully we can help cheer the boys on to their eighth title.

Ashley Carnes, Kentucky: I’ve been hearing Cornell is a tough team but, in my bracket, I had Cornell losing in the first round.

So does anyone really care? Not sure, but I thought it was interesting and was a great reminder that at the end of the day, these are students/kids.

It also made me think about her role as a cheerleader? Does anyone report on who’s been suspended by the cheer leading squad? It’s KY!.. There’s got to be a blog covering it somewhere…..
