Maybe Mitch isn’t Leaving

The Kansas City Star had an interview with the parties involved in the search for a new athletic director at Kansas and it looks like the story earlier today saying Mitch Barnhart was a finalist might not be true.

[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
One logical candidate for KU would be Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart, a Mission native who graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1977 and attended college at Ottawa University in Kansas. At Kentucky the last nine years, Barnhart also has experience running a department that has a historically prominent basketball program as its lifeblood.
Evans would not identify who had interviewed for the job. But a source with knowledge of KU’s search told The Star that Barnhart is not likely to land the Kansas job.
“It’d be tough for him to get in there,” the source said. “I wouldn’t spend a lot of time on Mitch Barnhart.”
The source also said that the search committee’s current targets are, like Barnhart, sitting athletic directors with impressive resumes.

Hat Tip to John Clay

Mitch recently released a statement saying he was not actively seeking the Kansas position. So it looks like Mitch isn’t leaving just yet. I hope this is the end of the talk of Mitch leaving, but this could be a sign of things to come. Lee Todd leaving might be the reason this talk is starting to get out there, and you just never know how a new President will look upon the athletic department and what changes he or she would like to make. It is definitely something to keep an eye on.
