Dupont Manual High School (Kent.) has been headlined by many football recruits staying in town and suiting up for the Cards. However, in the Class of 2012, things may be different.
Kentucky has already received a verbal pledge from four-star defensive lineman Thomas Chapman, and Chapman hopes to bring some of Manual’s talent to Lexington.
In fact, receiver Quintez Sutton is very interested in Kentucky, and he admits it is because of Chapman’s commitment.
“When Thomas Chapman committed, it really got me interested in UK. We’re like brothers, so it wouldn’t be bad to play together,” he said.
While he would love to stay with Chapman, it isn’t necessarily the most focal part of his future plans.
“I want to play with Thomas, but in the end, it won’t have the biggest impact,” he explained. “We will do what is best for ourselves in the end.”
However, as of right now, Sutton has two early favorites: Kentucky and Illinois.
“I like UK because of the coaching staff,” Sutton began. “Coach Turner and Coach Nord do some great recruiting, and they have a great family atmosphere. You have to love that.”
“I really liked my visit to Illinois that I took, so I’m trying to learn more about them, too.”
That’s not the only visit he has taken recently, though. Sutton was also in attendance for Kentucky’s spring game and it seems like he really enjoyed his visit.
“It was a very nice visit. I got to meet all the staff, and we both think I fit in the offense very well,” he said excitedly.
There were a lot of pass drops during the spring game, but Sutton likes the fact that there were a lot of passes thrown.
“Sure, there were some drops, but I like that they were throwing it so much. It makes it appealing.”
With summer here, camps are also in store for Sutton. He doesn’t have dates planned, but the rising senior has a good idea of where he wants to camp this summer.
“I’m planning on going to Kentucky in June, and then I also want to go to Illinois, Indiana, and Wofford, but there are no definite dates yet.”
It also seems that his hometown team, Louisville, is getting in on his recruitment.
