One of the top players in last year’s class was to be Luke Cothron. Well, he had academic troubles and didn’t qualify. He was at UMASS but got homesick and then the University of New Orleans called and offered him a way to play this semester. Too bad Enes Kanter can’t find a loophole. This from Jeff Goodman:
[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK][QUOTE]The rule is as follows: The University of New Orleans, which is transitioning out of the D-1 ranks, is able to take transfers. They can not only play right away, but also transfer somewhere else following the season (as long as they are in good academic standing) and play immediately.
“I didn’t believe it when they told it to me,” Cothron said.
Cothron arrived down in New Orleans last week and the next day was playing against Tulane.
This is basically a loophole for a non-qualifier to go, play half of the season and then become one of the most sought-after recruits in the Class of 2011.
Expect EVERYONE to recruit Cothron.
He said he had Kentucky, Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama, Oklahoma, N.C. State, Oklahoma State and others all over him prior to learning he wasn’t going to qualify.
“I’m going to re-open my recruitment,” Cothron said. “I just want to finish it out here, get through the semester and then got back on the big stage.”

Would Kentucky re-visit recruiting Cothron again? Who knows..but with Daniels and Lacey ready to make an imminent decision you would have to doubt it. But hey, you never know.
